Royal Commissioner baptizes tulip ‘Golden Dragon’

This year the Tulip Trade Event started on March 15 at Haakman Flowerbulbs in Wervershoof. The special guests attending the opening of this second event were Mr. Johan Remkes, Royal Commissioner for North Holland and Menting Bloembollen. In the presence of many guests, business relations and members of the press, they baptized the tulip ‘Golden Dragon’.

The Tulip Trade Event was launched two years ago as a joint effort of eight exporters of tulip bulbs to open their doors to an international public. Business relations from around the world were invited again to this second event. During the Tulip Trade Event visitors gained insight into the available assortment, the many novelties and of course an update on the latest techniques. The focus of the event covers the important developing market of Asia and beyond.

Symbolism of collaboration
The name Golden Dragon was a deliberate symbolic choice for baptizing the new tulip. In China the dragon stands for fortune and prosperity. The colour gold stands for wealth. This symbolism reflects the state of the tulip sector, the global collaboration and the Tulip Trade Event.
